8+ years’ experience as an 3D Generalist, Mieren’s work highlights asset creation for shorts, VR Experiences, and games, Production management as a Senior Artist in Modelling and Texturing, Animation and Rigging for characters and mechanisms, and many other roles in the pipelines of numerous projects.
We are creating a cutting-edge project in the medical field to help patients remotely and independently improve their wellbeing.
We have launched the first demo version of this product to begin its testing phase at the beginning of April 2022 and are continuing to make improvements to the user experience.
Helping to create clean impactful visuals for the clients of this wonderful sales and marketing consultancy.
These 3D elements helped elevate the client’s webpages and engage people with the products while also showing how beneficial their product can be in numerous industries.
Now we are preparing to go even further and create a VR experience for demonstrating at venues and in presentations with the public.
I helped ensure the standard of the models produced by a team of artists.
This involved constant and concise communication with the team and a large volume workflow with intimate understanding of the 3D process.
Originally I was brought onto the project as an artist, and quickly promoted to a senior position in charge of quality assurance.
Leading a dozen artists, we handled an average of 50 photorealistic furniture models per week.
I also created more models ranging from flower filled vases to technically accurate snowboards, from Halloween pumpkins to food items.
Anything that would have been unusual for the team to try and recreate.
In the time I worked with the team we created 3D AR product counterparts at scale for companies like K-Mart, Pier 1 imports, XRocker, and many more.
Animator, 3D Visual Artist, 3D Modeler
June/2020 – Current
Creating animated visuals to help them explain complex topics about various physics and biology.
I have worked closely with their project lead interpreting their concepts and 2D references into comprehensive 3D visuals.
This has allowed them to easily engage an audience and communicate with people who didn’t have a clear understanding of these topics.
Testimonial “Tom has delivered excellent quality 3D visuals for us.
As a client building intricate and unique concepts that have little to no existing visual points of reference Tom’s ability to work through complex ideas and create expert representations for our material has been an integral part of our work together.
The direction being given just over email has been well interpreted, they execute tasks quickly and offer great advice to get the best results possible.
After more than a year working on various projects together, I am happy to recommend Tomations If you're looking for a professional, dedicated, 3D artist to create exciting high quality visuals.”
Phantom Fin Enterprise – Tono Chronicles
January/2020 – June/2021
Working with the Author of the Tono Chronicles we created a 3D visual experience for his I-books.
Throughout the story we integrated scenes which ranged from Thomas Edison’s office to an ancient conflict in a rocky canyon pass.
It was an engaging project using the book as reference material to build the Author’s vision.
We even set up a 360 video rendering of a complex action taking place right inside a page of the book.
Testimonial "I am delighted to get this opportunity to talk about my collaboration with Tom.
Tom has been very easy to work with.
Initially, I was very hesitant to ask for any changes, but Tom made it easy.
Tom is always patient, listens well and is very responsive in a customer-centered way.
Add creativity, openness to new ideas, and affordability, and you have a great artist to work with.
I will definitely be working with Tom in the future."
- Byron Guy
Modeled and Textured photorealistic recreations of furniture for a variety of clients seeking these 3D models for promotional material, online store displays, and technical design.
3D Product Modeler
JOV Photo Lab/Product Photography - New Angance and HeBe Swiss
April/2019 – February/2021
For the Photo Lab I created visually accurate 3D products to use as assistance in their promotional material.
The 3D models give an incredible amount of creative control to the photographers at the lab allowing them to shoot in 3D scenes instead of needing a studio environment.
The ability to control lighting, environment, reflections, etc. allowed the lab to produce exactly what their clients wanted without ever leaving their office.
This in turn decreased the amount of time the shoots usually took and allows them to accept more clients.
Testimonial “Tom has the skill to create 3D models that people will love, and an organized workflow you need for the process of modelling work.
But on top of these, Tom’s responsiveness is what I value most and trust even though I am half the globe away. Truly a reliable partner to work with.”
I helped a talented team of web developers create 3D models of the Yes!poho sarees which allows them to display their collection of hundreds of different sarees without needing to fold and photograph each individual saree.
It’s saved the company an incredible amount of time and resources both now and in the future as they would have had to carefully display and shoot hundreds of Saree’s and they would have to dress and shoot a model for each dress.
Saree’s are by and large the same cut, just different patterns so they are uniquely able to be run through a process like this.
However, there are many solutions like this to online products that 3D can assist with and it’s becoming far more common.
I’m always thrilled to help people overcome hurdles like this.
I acted as a professional technical reviewer for a book on Blender 2.8, Providing my expertise with Blender 3D to correct any information and provide insight about what will help beginners in Blender 2.8 get a foot hold in the software.
You can see the books I reviewed below…
Starting off on this project we had a great idea about expressing the values and goals of the company with a crown made of water.
We achieved this with careful modeling using some fluid simulation to add more natural splashes and then sculpting the details to be just right.
It was also important to get the material right, clean, and pure but clearly visible through its shadows and subtle colorations.
It was a great success in the end, and we made a beautiful logo to show for it.
Project Water Crown
Material Shaders in Cycles engine
August/2016 - February/2017
I worked with the creative mind behind the Kairma air purifier company to create promotional material and product visualizations for the unique design of Kairma's air purifier.
It required some interesting elements to be successful in explaining how the product differed from others.
As it is an air purifier, we needed to visualize the air moving through the device, and we did this with smoke simulations, compositing, curves, ect.
It was complex, but so was the product, you can see some examples of the material we created in the project below…
Project Air Purifier Visualization
3D Modeler and Concept Artist/Volunteer
Real Illusions Animation
September/2015 - March/2016
With the help of the writing team, we created concept art for the armor and weapons before moving into 3D Modeling which was done by myself and the other modelers on the team.
The final pieces were styled realistically for medieval times with some flourish of fantastical elements to add a greater intrigue to the designs which you can see linked below.
